At QASMT, the STEM Seminar Series is off to a fantastic start!

In Week 3, Associate Professor Jodie Painter from QIMR gave an inspiring presentation on how genetics and bioinformatics research is being used to improve human health in our modern world. And today we had Dr Joseph Fernando, a beamline scientist at UQ and QUT, discuss how microscopy is being used to develop new electrode materials for batteries. We have had over 60 students attend each seminar! A big thank you to Jodie and Joseph for inspiring the next generation of scientists, and a big well done to our students who have demonstrated the IB learner attributes: inquirers, knowledgeable, communicators, thinkers, principled and open-minded.

On Wednesday, I spent the day with our eager Year 7 students at camp. With the rain holding off, students were able to enjoy various activities including the High Ropes Course, Problem-solving Team Games, GPS Challenges, Climbing Wall, Leap of Faith, Survival-based Adventures and Bush MasterChef. It was great to see our students flourish whilst participating in the activities offered by the Queensland Conference and Camping Centre (QCCC). My adventurous side really shone through as I took the Leap of Faith, whilst Mrs Bullock watched from below!

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Jessica Bailey, the 2022 QASMT Dux. Jessica received the Distinguished Academic Achiever Award, at the QCE Awards Ceremony. We are so very proud of Jessica.
